I have a project at school to create a model of an environmentally friendly home. I'm asking for idea's i've got things like programmable thermostats and laminex doors but is there anything else?

Thick insulation in the attic and walls. An attic fan to keep the house cool. Solar powered water heater. Solar panels. Maybe a small wind turbine in the backyard. Low flow shower heads, water nozzles, and Energy Star branded appliances.
